  • Call for Marcy and Tracy

    Tim Carpenter | PDA

Today, California voters will cast their ballots to determine their nominees in contested races. As you know, PDA has two endorsed candidates on the ballots—Tracy Emblem and Marcy Winograd. These two progressive women have put it all on the line for the things we believe in. And some PDAers are giving it right back—they’ve joined in the GOTV effort by making phone calls. Today is your last chance—before the primary—to make a difference for Tracy and Marcy:

  • Marsden for Congress. Marsden for You

    by Les Marsden
This evening, I'm pleased to tell you that Oakhurst's Sierra Star newspaper informed us that "upon further consideration" they've withdrawn their previous endorsement of Loraine Goodwin and have instead endorsed me in the Congressional 19th Democratic Primary.  I'm very grateful for their reconsideration of what had been Ms. Goodwin's only endorsement.

And speaking of endorsements, after an incredible display of intern energy, we've updated our own endorsements page on the Marsden For Congress website.  Take a look - and if you're not there and would like to be added, let us know by sending your name to MarsdenCampaign@MarsdenForCongress.com   You'll be in very good company.

This past Friday, I appeared as guest on the Ray Appleton Show on KMJ in Fresno, for the first hour of his two-hour show.  Yes, I know what you're thinking: Ray is a pretty right-wing guy; his highly-rated show airs between three hours of Rush Limbaugh and two hours of Sean Hannity.  But as I hope you know, I believe in plunging right in where others may fear to go, and I think we had a pretty respectful, productive and - friendly hour of conversation.  If you'd like to hear how it went, click here.

I'm pleased our campaign has been selected by the brand-new progressive website Democrat Unity for their front-page banner: take a look at http://democratunity.com/

And also, please take a look at the work of our great friend (and premature legend!) Chris Finnie: she wrote a post about the Marsden Campaign that appears on the Daily Kos; if enough people 'tip' her writing, the story about our campaign could be featured on the front page of the Daily Kos.  Please take a look, create a Daily Kos identity if you don't already have one, and throw a 'tip' into Chris' tip jar.   Don't worry: it costs nothing but a moment of your time.

Thanks - and please spread the word.
  • Israel and Harman in Tandem: From High Seas to Airwaves

    By Norman Soloman

When Israel attacked the Gaza aid flotilla, Congresswoman Jane Harman was engaged in a parallel assault. Israel’s government relied on the efficacy of violence; Harman’s campaign was counting on the power of paid media. In both cases, the targets were advocates of human rights for Palestinian people.

Brandishing guns and stun grenades, in international waters, Israeli commandos rappelled from a helicopter and boarded from a fast-moving boat onto the flotilla’s largest ship. The mission was to halt a Gaza-bound expedition carrying 10,000 tons of humanitarian aid.

The mission of Harman’s campaign strategists -- targeting her progressive opponent with a slick TV commercial -- was to achieve a related goal in California’s 36th congressional district. Stopping the Gaza flotilla and stopping the congressional campaign of Marcy Winograd are similar agenda items.

Harman, a powerful member of the center-right Blue Dog Coalition, is one of the Israeli government’s most valued allies on Capitol Hill. She’s a standout -- even in a Congress teeming with fervent apologists for Israel’s relentless suppression of Palestinian rights.
